How do I become a VISTA Site? |
|
VISTA sites are nonprofit organizations or local government agencies. VISTAs build capacity, which means they create, expand, or strengthen an organization’s systems or processes and transfer knowledge, products, and relationships to the staff and volunteers. VISTA projects can be around recruiting and managing community volunteers, raising funds through fundraisers, grant writing, developing donor databases, working to coordinate projects, and developing communication plans and marketing tools. VISTAs support programs that improve academic performance, expand job opportunities, develop financial assets, alleviate hunger, reduce homelessness, improve health services, increase housing access, develop economic opportunities for low-income veterans and military families, and expand access to technology.
UW-Parkside's VISTA Project requires that the host sites pay $7,000.00 in cost share each year. Most sites choose to pay $3,500.00 at the beginning of the VISTA term and $3,500.00 halfway through the VISTA term. This payment method is not required. Sites are welcome to pay the $7,000.00 up front or increase the number of payments to four times throughout the VISTA term, etc.
